The Women’s Super League standings are becoming clearer as the competition reaches Matchday 9, with several exciting match-ups scheduled for this weekend.
Chelsea currently tops the table ahead of defending champions Manchester City, with both teams set to kick off against Everton and West Ham, respectively.
The race for third place is intensifying, as the London City Lionesses face Birmingham City, while Tottenham aims to secure a favorable outcome against Brighton.
Manchester United also features in the mix, as they prepare to face Aston Villa, while Arsenal heads to Anfield to compete against Liverpool.
At the lower end of the table, Charlton Athletic remains at the bottom and faces a critical match against Crystal Palace as they seek to begin their season on a positive note.

MANCHESTER CITY V WEST HAM
The weekend kicks off at the Joie Stadium where Manchester City will take on West Ham, with Andree Jeglertz’s team looking to match Chelsea’s performance at the top.
City recently secured a 2-1 victory over the London City Lionesses and now face a West Ham squad fresh off a significant win against Liverpool.
The Citizens aspire to join the ranks of previous champions by earning over 25 points from their first nine league games (currently at W7 D1), a feat achieved by Chelsea in 2024-25 (27 points) and themselves in 2017-18 (25).
City has managed to win their last 16 home matches in the WSL, triumphing in their last three despite allowing two goals in each. Remarkably, no other WSL team had previously won back-to-back home games while conceding multiple goals.
The simulations forecast City to maintain their winning streak, giving them an 81.3% chance of victory, while West Ham stands at just 7.1%, with a draw at 11.6%.
City’s history against West Ham also favors them, having won 13 out of their 15 meetings in the league (D1 L1), and they have completed the double over the Hammers in three of the last four seasons.
West Ham needs to be cautious of Khadija Shaw, who’s currently on an impressive scoring streak of eight consecutive league games, having found the net in 13 out of her 19 appearances this season.
CHELSEA V EVERTON
In another Saturday match, Chelsea welcomes Everton to Stamford Bridge, hoping to build on their stunning 6-0 win against Charlton Athletic in their last outing.
After drawing with Aston Villa in their first match, Chelsea has since claimed seven WSL victories in a row, marking their longest winning streak in a single season since achieving nine straight wins under Sonia Bompastor in 2024-25.
The Blues have been prolific, scoring 18 goals over their last four league matches, including two instances of netting six goals. They have managed this feat only twice before in five consecutive league games.

Everton will, however, pose a challenge, having kept three clean sheets in this season’s eight matches, just one fewer than their total for the entire last season. Still, the Opta supercomputer forecasts Chelsea as the clear favorites, with an 83.7% chance of winning, while Everton’s chances sit at a mere 6.1% and a draw at 10.2%.
ASTON VILLA V MANCHESTER UNITED
On Sunday, Villa Park will host a match where Manchester United will seek to continue their positive momentum against Aston Villa.
United remains unbeaten in their last six WSL matches (W3 D3) after starting the season with two losses. Although they’ve drawn their previous two games, they could record three consecutive draws for the first time since November 2024.
With only nine goals scored in their first eight matches, United has struggled offensively—marking their lowest tally at this point in any WSL season. Their current total of 12 points also reflects their joint lowest after eight matches, matching their tallies from the 2019-20 and 2021-22 seasons.
Nevertheless, their points obtained exceed their Expected Points (xP), with only Man City (+6) and Aston Villa (+5) outperforming their xP more than United (+4).
The Opta supercomputer suggests United will likely secure three points, providing them a 51.8% win probability, while the draw is estimated at 23.1%. Villa, on the other hand, holds a 25.1% chance of winning against United, a team they’ve historically struggled against.
LIVERPOOL V ARSENAL
Anfield becomes the stage again for Liverpool facing Arsenal, which follows Arsenal’s previous 1-0 victory on Merseyside.
The Opta supercomputer anticipates Arsenal achieving a similar outcome here, as they have notched up 21 wins against Liverpool—the most victories by any single team over an opponent in WSL history, matching their record against Everton.
Arsenal is attributed a 64% win probability compared to Liverpool’s 16.8%, with a draw occurring in 19.2% of simulations.

Despite winning only two of their eight games this season for a total of 10 points, Arsenal has historically never fallen below this benchmark after their first nine matches. They also maintain the uncomfortable record of just one win in their last seven matches (D4 L2), signifying their worst run in the WSL.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is searching for their first win in four league games, having drawn once and lost three times in this span. Since they’ve gained only two victories in their last 11 home matches (W4 D5), the Reds are also facing their longest winless streak since early 2019.
TOTTENHAM V BRIGHTON
While Chelsea and Manchester City dominate headlines, Tottenham has quietly climbed to fourth place in the league ahead of Matchday 9.
Spurs have notably achieved three league victories by three or more goals and suffered two losses by the same margin this season. Their games this term have seen an average goal margin of 3.3, the highest across the league.
They are also averaging 21.5 shots per game, surpassing their previous best of 13.6 from the 2023-24 season, and have already taken 60% of last season’s total attempts in just eight matches.
Tottenham’s next challenge is against sixth-place Brighton, who have won two consecutive WSL matches—a feat they last achieved in November 2021.
However, Brighton has struggled historically against Spurs in away games, managing only one win in seven attempts (D2 L4). The Opta supercomputer gives Spurs a 49.6% victory chance, while Brighton sits at 25% and the possibility of a draw is at 25.4%.
CRYSTAL PALACE V CHARLTON ATHLETIC
Charlton has had a challenging start in the WSL, remaining the sole team without points this season, as they face Crystal Palace in an important encounter.
Charlton is only the fifth team in WSL history to lose all eight initial matches, and three of the previous four teams in similar strife ended the season in the bottom two.
Among teams with multiple WSL seasons, Crystal Palace has one of the lowest home win rates (13%), but a victory here would surpass their total home points from their previous season.
This match will be pivotal for both teams in avoiding relegation, and the Opta supercomputer predicts Crystal Palace to secure the much-needed three points.

Crystal Palace is given a 53.9% chance of winning compared to Charlton’s 22.4%, while a draw has a 23.7% likelihood.
Despite being favorites, Palace has only one win in their last six encounters with Charlton (D1 L4), with their last victory occurring in a 3-2 clash at Selhurst Park during last season’s WSL2.
LONDON CITY LIONESSES V BIRMINGHAM CITY
The final match of the weekend will be at the Copperjax Community Stadium, where London City Lionesses look to rebound against Birmingham City.
After a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City, London City has won five of their last six home games in the WSL but could face consecutive losses for the first time since early 2026.
Birmingham is coming off a 4-1 loss to Spurs but has taken four points from their last three matches after having only two points from the previous five.
Historically, London City has not won against Birmingham in their last four attempts (D1 L3) since their 1-0 victory in February 2023. Predictions favor London City, assigning them a 66.4% chance of winning, while Birmingham only has a 15.3% win probability and a draw at 18.3%.
With a scoring streak in mind, London City has found the net in every league match since March, significantly boosting their offensive output compared to earlier in the season.
Fan Take: The ongoing competition in the Women’s Super League not only highlights the evolving landscape of women’s soccer but also builds anticipation among fans for thrilling matchups and potential upsets.
