Fermin Aldeguer has been declared fit to make his MotoGP comeback in Qatar this weekend. The Gresini rider had suffered a fractured right hand after crashing at Mandalika, an injury that reportedly happened as he hit the ground in frustration. This marks Aldeguer’s third major injury this season—he previously missed pre-season testing and the opening Thai GP due to a broken femur, and was sidelined for three races after fracturing a vertebra at Assen.
Ahead of the flyaway races, Aldeguer also had surgery to remove some metal implants from his left leg. During his absence, World Superbike star Iker Lecuona stood in for Aldeguer in the last two rounds and will continue to race for Gresini in Qatar, now riding the factory-spec GP26 instead of Alex Marquez. Marquez himself recently underwent surgery to take out metalwork from his collarbone and hand, alongside a procedure on his right shoulder.
Additionally, injured Aprilia riders Jorge Martin and Raul Fernandez are expected to be cleared to race this weekend.
Fan Take: Aldeguer’s return is a huge boost for MotoGP fans eager to see talented young riders back in action, highlighting the resilience and determination required at the highest level of racing. With key competitors like Martin and Fernandez also making comebacks, this weekend could showcase some thrilling battles that add excitement and depth to the championship.
