Glenn Jacobs, famously known as Kane from WWE and a Hall of Famer, is emerging as the leading candidate to fill Marsha Blackburn’s U.S. Senate seat following her victory in Tennessee’s governor’s race. After Blackburn won the election on November 3, becoming Tennessee’s first female governor, she plans to resign from the Senate once she takes office in January, allowing her to appoint a successor who will serve until a special election in 2028.
According to The Washington Sun, several insiders see Jacobs as the front-runner for the appointment, pointing to his close ties with Blackburn and her team, as well as his active support during her campaign. Jacobs is also represented by Ward Baker, Blackburn’s chief consultant. While Jacobs has expressed strong willingness to accept the Senate role—stating on a recent podcast that he would seriously consider and likely take the seat—he faces competition from others like Rep. Tim Burchett, Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, and Deputy Governor Stuart McWhorter.
Jacobs previously served two terms as Knox County mayor, stepping down due to term limits in September. He launched his mayoral campaign in 2017, winning elections in 2018 and 2022, and although he was considered a potential gubernatorial candidate, he chose to back Blackburn. Knox County is Tennessee’s fourth most populous county.
Before his political career, Jacobs had a celebrated wrestling career, joining WWE in 1995 and adopting the Kane persona in 1997. He made a memorable WWE debut during the first Hell in a Cell match and has held multiple championships, including the WWE and World Heavyweight titles, as well as numerous tag team championships. He kept up WWE appearances early in his mayoral tenure and is now enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame.
The transition from professional wrestling to elected office isn’t unprecedented, with figures like Jesse Ventura and Linda McMahon having made similar moves.

Fan Take: This development is huge for wrestling fans because it blurs the line between sports entertainment and real-world influence, showing how wrestlers can leverage their popularity into political power. Jacobs’ potential Senate role could also bring a fresh, charismatic voice to politics, while spotlighting wrestling’s cultural impact beyond the ring.
