Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay announced Friday that Myles Garrett will be taken off injured reserve and is expected to play this weekend.
Garrett, who joined the Rams in a June trade from the Cleveland Browns, appeared in the season opener but has been sidelined since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in mid-September. He had already said after the Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers that he wasn’t fully healthy, having missed much of training camp because of the knee issue.
After being limited in practice for two consecutive days, Garrett is slated to suit up Sunday against the Washington Commanders, provided there are no setbacks; the team opened his 21-day practice window earlier in the week. Defensive tackle Aaron Donald praised Garrett’s recovery, saying he looks quick and that practicing together in full pads went well.
McVay had been careful not to set expectations about a return timeline, stressing the importance of monitoring how Garrett’s knee reacted to practice before advancing his rehab plan.
The Rams (4-4) enter Week 9 on a two-game winning streak and are tied for second in the NFC West. After the trip to Washington they face the Arizona Cardinals and then have a bye in Week 11.
Fan Take: Garrett’s return instantly upgrades the Rams’ pass rush and could be the catalyst that turns close games in L.A.’s favor down the stretch. For the league, a healthy Garrett adds star power and competitive balance—his presence will be watched closely every week.
