Enzo Maresca emphasized the need for “balance” as Manchester City aims to navigate through their recent struggles.
The team’s Premier League losing streak has now reached three matches following a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Forest quickly took a 2-0 lead with goals from Jair Cunha and Liam Delap within the first 18 minutes at the City Ground.
City managed to score a goal early in the second half thanks to Rayan Cherki, but Delap’s second goal in the 73rd minute secured the victory for Forest.
2 – Liam Delap’s goal for Nottingham Forest (18th min) makes it the earliest Manchester City have been two goals behind in a Premier League game since November 2019 against Liverpool (13th min). Shocked. https://t.co/my8jjWqVIl

This is the first time since November/December 2024 that City has lost three straight Premier League games, and Maresca acknowledges that there is much to improve upon.
“I always worry, even when we are winning,” Maresca commented. “We need to achieve balance. We went seven matches without a loss, and now we find ourselves in a three-game losing streak, which calls for balance.”
“Over the international break, we need to assess what we can enhance and aim to restart things positively afterward. We will utilize this time to clarify areas for improvement,” he added. “We know we have strengths, but we also recognize the need for growth to avoid these types of outcomes.”
For Oliver Glasner, the win brought relief amid frustration, lifting Nottingham Forest out of the relegation zone. He celebrated Delap’s second goal by sprinting down the touchline to join his players, joking, “I can’t ask my players to outrun the opponents while I’m running less than the other manager, so it was necessary for me to join in.”
He further noted that Forest players had outperformed City by running six or seven kilometers more, which pushed him to match the effort. “It was amusing for me,” he remarked.
Saturday’s match marked the first time since November 2008 that City suffered a Premier League defeat by two or more goals against a team that was in the relegation zone.
In soccer, this news highlights a pivotal moment for Manchester City, showcasing how quickly fortunes can change in the league. The ongoing struggles of a top team like City could signal a shift in competitive dynamics, making the league more unpredictable and exciting for fans.
