The NHL’s annual free agent period will commence at noon on July 1st. Although several prominent players like Mitch Marner, Brad Marchand, and Aaron Ekblad are no longer available, there are still notable players who qualify as unrestricted free agents.

David Staples from the Edmonton Journal notes that multiple NHL insiders link Brock Boeser to the Edmonton Oilers. However, the team is still working to move Viktor Arvidsson to create salary cap space. TSN’s Chris Johnston suggests that the 28-year-old right winger remains the Winnipeg Jets’ top choice.

Jets’ GM Kevin Cheveldayoff mentioned last week that he plans to continue contract negotiations with 29-year-old right winger Nikolaj Ehlers until the deadline. On the other hand, ESPN’s Emily Kaplan views the Carolina Hurricanes as the leading contender for Ehlers, while NBC Sports Boston’s Nick Goth believes the Boston Bruins should try to bring back the longtime Jet.

The Los Angeles Kings are eager to re-sign 29-year-old left-shot defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov, but he might explore free agency. TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported that the Kings are holding off on responding to Gavrikov’s final offer. If he becomes available, Mollie Walker from the New York Post thinks the New York Rangers plan to pursue him.

With limited quality centers available this summer, 33-year-old Michael Granland is expected to be highly sought after. Elite prospect Cam Robinson points to the St. Louis Blues, San Jose Sharks, and Carolina Hurricanes as potential suitors.

The goaltending market is thin this summer, which could work in Jake Allen’s favor. The 34-year-old had a solid season as the New Jersey Devils’ backup. Daily Faceoff’s Anthony Di Marco reported last week that Allen is negotiating a two-year, $5 million contract with the Devils. If he leaves New Jersey, teams like the Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers might express interest.

Corey Perry, the 40-year-old right winger, hoped to return to the Edmonton Oilers. However, with their recent re-signings of Evan Bouchard and Trent Frederick, Perry is likely to join another contender aiming for a Stanley Cup run.
