Milwaukee Bucks React to Brook Lopez Departure, Secure $107 Million Giannis Antetokounmpo Replacement and Ink Three Additional Deals

The Milwaukee Bucks have made significant roster changes recently, marked by a mix of reactions from star player Giannis Antetokounmpo. After re-signing Bobby Portis, the Bucks let veteran center Brook Lopez leave and sign with the LA Clippers. When asked on social media whether Lopez’s jersey should be retired in honor of his contribution to the Bucks’ 2021 championship, Giannis emphatically agreed.

The Bucks have made a major move by acquiring Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner, who was part of the team that eliminated Milwaukee in the playoffs and advanced to the NBA Finals. Turner has agreed to a four-year, $107 million contract with Milwaukee, including a player option for the fourth year and a 15% trade kicker. Additionally, the Bucks re-signed Jericho Sims and Gary Harris to two-year deals.

In a trade with the Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee sent Pat Connaughton and two future second-round picks to acquire Vasilije Micic. Despite these acquisitions, the Bucks have effectively moved on from Damian Lillard, though they still owe him $113 million over the next five years while he recovers from a severe Achilles injury.

This roster overhaul was made possible by restructuring Lillard’s contract, giving the Bucks flexibility to add Turner and create impact moves. However, Giannis remains unsettled, as insider Chris Haynes noted that while Milwaukee is not planning to relocate, they are striving to improve. The big question remains whether this revamp will satisfy the demands and ambitions of Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Fan Take: This flurry of moves highlights the Bucks’ determination to remain competitive and build a championship-caliber team around Giannis. For basketball fans, it signals an exciting new chapter for Milwaukee that could shift the balance of power in the NBA if the new roster gels quickly.
