The Indiana Fever had an eventful June, especially with Caitlin Clark frequently sidelined due to injury. Despite her absences, the team relied on several key players whose contributions helped keep Indiana competitive in the WNBA standings. Notably, the duo of Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston stood out, showcasing strong chemistry that became a highlight for the team.

On Tuesday, the Fever celebrated one of Mitchell’s impressive plays, giving special recognition to an assist that perfectly set up a score for Boston. This monthly award honors the top assists made by Fever players, with the previous month’s honor going to Kate Rinklark for an exceptional full-court pass to Mitchell during a game against the Liberty.

Mitchell has been a crucial player for Indiana this season, averaging 18.9 points and 2.9 assists per game. In Clark’s absence during the last two games, she scored 20 points in a loss to the Sparks and exploded for 32 points in a win over Dallas, also contributing seven assists in the process.

At 29, Mitchell, a guard drafted second overall out of Ohio State in 2018, has accumulated impressive accolades, including two WNBA All-Star selections, an All-Rookie Team honor in 2018, and the Dawn Staley Award. With Clark entering her second WNBA season and Boston developing into a rising star, Mitchell’s leadership and performance provide a strong foundation for the Fever to make a deep playoff run.

Fan Take: This spotlight on Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston underscores the growing talent and depth within the Indiana Fever—a promising sign for WNBA fans eager to see fierce competition. Their development not only boosts the team’s prospects but also contributes to the increasing excitement and visibility of women’s basketball.
