Sunday brought new insights and unexpected developments in the Club World Cup as top European clubs showcased their strength and officially secured two places in the round of 16.

Both Juventus and Manchester City continued to assert their dominance in Group G with impressive wins, setting the stage for a critical clash on Thursday to decide the group’s top seed. Meanwhile, Real Madrid has already reached ten points, focusing on their match against Pachuca, while Al Hilal and Red Bull Salzburg battled in a tense draw that maintained their hopes in the tightly contested Group H.

Sunday Club World Cup Results

Juventus 4, Wydad AC 1

Juventus solidified their position at the top of Group G with another comprehensive victory on Sunday. The match started favorably for the Italian side when Wydad AC inadvertently scored an own goal just six minutes in. Kennan Juld opened his account by netting two goals, one in the 16th minute and another in the 69th. Wydad AC’s Thembinkosi Lorch scored to prevent a clean sheet for Juventus in the 25th minute. The Italian giants capped off their win with a penalty from Dushan Vlahovic in injury time. Following this match, both Juventus and Manchester City progressed to the knockout stage, vying for the top position in Group G on Thursday.

Real Madrid 3, Pachuca 1

Real Madrid took the lead against Pachuca, even after defender Raul Asensio received a red card early on for a reckless challenge on Pachuca’s star striker, Salomon London. Pachuca initially had the upper hand, but Jude Bellingham leveled the score with a goal in the 35th minute, and midfielder Alda Guller gave them the lead 10 minutes later. Despite Pachuca’s attempts throughout the second half, Real Madrid added another goal from Federico Valverde in the 70th minute. Pachuca finally scored through 19-year-old Elias Montiel, but it wasn’t enough, as they were eliminated after a tough battle against a dwindled Real Madrid squad.

FC Red Bull Salzburg 0, Al Hilal 0

The match between Al Hilal and Salzburg resulted in the Club World Cup’s fifth scoreless draw, with Yassine Bounou earning Player of the Match honors for his stellar goalkeeping. Despite outshooting Al Hilal 6-4, Salzburg struggled to penetrate their defense. They had a strong performance in a previous match against Real Madrid, sparking hopes but ultimately could not find the back of the net against Al Hilal.

Manchester City 6, Al Ain 0

Manchester City delivered an impressive performance, defeating Al Ain 6-0. The English side struck early in the first half with goals from İlkay Gündoğan, Claudio Echeverri, and Erling Haaland. Gündoğan added a second goal before Oscar Bobb and Rayan Cherki also found the net. This win followed Manchester City’s earlier tournament victory against Wydad AC, solidifying their position in the round of 16. Al Ain, who faced a 5-0 defeat against Juventus in their opener, suffered another setback against fiercely competitive European opposition.
