Officials from the NHL, NHLPA, and international hockey organizations have finalized a long-awaited agreement to allow NHL players to participate in the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The NHL, NHLPA, International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), and International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed that NHL players will compete in the Olympics for the first time since 2014, after negotiations that began last year. IIHF President Luc Tardif described the deal as a significant advancement for hockey. Although it took some time to formalize, the agreement was finalized in February 2024, also paving the way for NHL player involvement in the 2030 Games. The first six players from each of the 12 participating countries have been announced for the men’s hockey tournament, taking place from February 11 to 22, 2026.
