Chiefs’ Traviskells Eyes Exciting Broadcasting Path Following NFL Retirement

Travis Kelce, though not yet retired, is already considering a career after football that involves broadcasting. The Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end has expressed interest in becoming a game announcer, joining the ranks of former NFL stars like Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Chris Collinsworth, Troy Aikman, and Greg Olsen who transitioned into broadcasting roles. In a recent podcast, Kelce shared his curiosity about what it’s like to call a game, mentioning he has always enjoyed imagining himself as a commentator.

Kelce, who will turn 36 in October and is entering his 13th NFL season, is widely expected to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer once he retires, though he has not yet decided when to hang up his cleats. He found it easy to commit to playing in the 2025 season rather than retiring now. To enhance his playing longevity, Kelce reportedly shed about 25 pounds during the offseason after entering the 2024 season heavier than usual. While last season’s performance was solid, it marked a career-low in yards and touchdowns for the star tight end, who caught 97 passes for 823 yards and three touchdowns, reflecting a dip in his usual offensive dominance.

The 2025 season marks the final year of Kelce’s contract, leading to speculation that it could be his last with the Chiefs and in the NFL. His earnings for the year are projected to total $17.25 million, the majority stemming from a $12.5 million roster bonus.

Fan Take: Travis Kelce’s potential move into broadcasting signals a new chapter for one of the NFL’s most dynamic players, offering fans a fresh way to stay connected to the game. His transition also highlights how former players can continue to shape the sport beyond their active years, enriching the viewing experience with expert insights.
