Lazio midfielder Matteo Gendozi has linked his move away from the club during the summer transfer, with people like Newcastle United and Aston Villa eager to sign him.
According to a report by IL ussaggero, two Premier League clubs were following his situation and they were able to see the move. The 26-year-old has done very well at Italian clubs and he has previously shown his quality in the UK with clubs like Arsenal.
It remains to be seen whether he has decided to return to the Premier League this summer. The French midfielder could prove to be a great addition to two clubs.
Newcastle needs midfield depth
Newcastle needs more control in the middle of the park. In particular, they will start competing in the UEFA Champions League next season. Guendouzi adds physicality, technical ability and control to the side. He knows the league well and can quickly settle down and make an impact.
Newcastle is a big club with ambitious projects and he was able to be drawn to the idea of joining them. Newcastle has been tracking midfielders for over a year.

Similarly, Aston Villa has an exciting project. He has already played for Unai Emery and the opportunity to reunite with the Spanish manager may be exciting for him. It will be interesting to see which of the two clubs can make a deal. They will also face competition with the newly promoted side, Sunderland. It’s fair to assume Newcastle and Aston Villa will become more attractive destinations for players.
The midfielder has been labelled “leader” in the past by former Premier League star Gary Neville. He has the qualities to improve Newcastle and Aston Villa next season. It’s not yet known where he will end.
