Liverpool are the Premier League champions, but do they rest on glory? It’s definitely not.

The £116 million Man Florian Wirtz is located in the building, and the exciting duo of Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez signed for £29.5 million and £40 million. The second-best defense of the top flight in 2024/25 appears to have a fresh feeling for next season.

Certainly, Kerkez appears to be doomed to take longtime Andy Robertson on left back, but Frimon fights Connor Bradley and is not left to his shawl on his right flank.

Giorgi Mamaldashvili is also set to a late arrival at Anfield, so there may even be a decision to make on the stick, especially as current number one Allison has been suffering from injuries issues in recent years.

Additionally, the shakeup could be found in the store regarding the new partner of Virgil van Dyke’s centre-back, and the uncertainty surrounding Ibrahimaconate’s future only increases the need for competition at the centre of defense.

van dijk aside, Arne Slot has the chance to deploy a defensive unit with almost completely new looks on 26/2025, with searching for a new centreback still underway.

The latest in Liverpool centre-back search

With Conate attracting interest from Real Madrid and only one year left on his current contract, the Reds will have to acquire their first senior centre-back since the Frenchman arrived in 2021.

Crystal Palace skipper Mark Guehe is now the name of everyone’s lips, and recent reports suggest that personal terms have been agreed with the 24-year-old British.

That being said, alternatives are still being considered following further speculation, and Daily Mail’s Simon Jones notes that Mersey Cedar is planning whether to proceed with consultations with Guech or Ajax starlet Jarrell Dote.

The latter man reportedly valued at around £40 million, but was previously advertised for his move to Anfield.

Of course, Guehi offers proven Premier League quality and experience, but the younger Dutch have to get even better…

Why can pigeons become Guehi upgrades?

The Reds have already earned the reward for signing Dutch talent who was in school in the Netherlands, with former Groningen starlet Van Dick heading to Merseyside through stints at Celtic and Southampton in January 2018.

Now Liverpool’s captain and leader, 6-foot-5 Titan, has been a truly monstrous figure for the club up until now.

Manipulating in the left centre like van dijk, Hato has some way to reach his compatriot level, as well as left back, but the similarities between the pair have already been noted by journalist Jorn Alders.

“He can be an option. He’s really a big talent. He’s not completely similar to Van Dik, but he has a body. He has good techniques. He’s strong and very fast, so he has the weapon to improve in the Premier League,” Aalders said.

“He’s very young. He’s only 19 years old, but he’s already the first choice for the Netherlands in left-back position and he’s one of the best players on that team.”

Tied to follow in Van Dick’s footsteps, the pigeon has been praised by talent scout Jace Krigg for his “immeasurable” quality, and had 111 appearances in Ajax before he turned 20. For comparison, the aforementioned Guehi was 19 years old.

Not only are they more versatile than the British because of their ability to feature in fullback, teenagers seem to own greater calm and quality, as shown by the 90% pass completion rate for the previous semester, in addition to an average of 0.6 key passes per game. Guehi, meanwhi, meanwhile, averaged 84% and 0.5 for the same two metrics, respectively.

Both men made 2.6 tackles and intercepts per game in 2024/25, but interestingly, the pigeon looked more determined defender, dribbled in the past with just 0.3 innings, while the palace captain averaged 0.5 in that respect.

Perhaps “one of his generation’s most talented CBs in Europe,” the Dutch U21 star has already shined at the age of 19, and it’s really exciting to imagine what he can achieve.

Of course, Guehi may represent a ready-made solution, but as a man who can potentially prove to be the next Van Dijk, Hato could have a higher ceiling.
