Kamilla Rakhimova defeated World No. 4 Jasmine Paolini in the second round at Wimbledon to advance to the third round of the tournament.

In the second round on Wednesday, the unranked Russians were upset after dropping their first set. Despite falling 6-4 in the opening stanza, Rakimoba scored the next two sets with the same score.

This victory marks the first victory over Rakimoba’s top 10 ranked opponents. The 23-year-old ranks 80th in the world, 0-7 against the top 10 players before upsetting Paolini.

Rakhimova defeated Japan’s AOI ITO (5-7, 6-3, 6-2) in the opening round of the tournament. Her monumental victory led her to take part in a third round showdown with No. 30 Seed Linda Noskova.

Paolini defeated Latvian player Anastasya Sevastova (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) and fell to Rakimova, who is competing for his third career title.

It’s been a cruel run so far for top-ranked female singles participants. Rakhimova’s upset follows the shocking first round exit of the second Kokogoff after losing to unranked Dayana Yasutermska, 7(7)-6(3)-6(3), 6-1 after securing his first French open victory at the age of 21.

Sabalenka is currently the last remaining top five seed attendee of the women’s singles event. No. 5 Qinwen Zheng was defeated in three sets in the opening round by Katerina Siniaková.
