The New York Knicks have concluded their search for a new head coach, with ESPN reporting that two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike Brown is set to take over the role. Brown recently gained attention for securing the position, having been interviewed twice and standing out as the first candidate to receive a second interview. The Knicks also considered other candidates including former Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins, New Orleans Pelicans’ James Borrego, and Minnesota Timberwolves’ Mika Neelli.

Brown notably led the Sacramento Kings to the playoffs in 2023, their first appearance since 2006, earning Coach of the Year honors. Over two seasons, he compiled a 107-88 record before being let go. Brown also earned the NBA Coach of the Year award in 2009 during his time with Cleveland and holds a career record of 454-304. The previous Knicks coach, Tom Thibodeau, was dismissed on June 3rd despite guiding the team to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years; like Brown, Thibodeau is a two-time Coach of the Year winner.

Fan Take: This coaching change marks a significant moment for Knicks fans hopeful for sustained success and playoff competitiveness. Mike Brown’s proven track record and ability to turn teams around could signal a new era of strong leadership and renewed excitement for basketball in New York.
