Top MLB July 4th Strikeout Props: Bet Against ’ Starter vs. Astros at Plus Odds!

Two of Major League Baseball’s top teams, the Los Angeles and Houston Astros, will kick off a three-game series on July 4th at Stadium. The lead the National League West with the best record in baseball at 56-32, holding a nine-game lead. The Astros, with a 52-35 record, have the second-best record in the American League and are seven games ahead in the AL West.

For the , Ben Casparius (6-2, 3.97 ERA) is slated to start, while Houston will send veteran Lance McCullers Jr. (1-3, 6.61 ERA) to the mound. The Sportsline Projection model, which simulated all MLB games 10,000 times, gives Casparius a 5-star rating for going under 3.5 strikeouts (+113) on July 4th, making it the top recommended play for that day. McCullers’ over 4.5 strikeouts (+112) earns a 4.5-star rating.

Beyond this matchup, the model offers two other 4.5-star pitcher strikeout player prop selections for Friday’s 15-game slate:

1. Kyle Hendricks has over 2.5 strikeouts (-111) against the Blue Jays at 7:07 pm ET. Hendricks (5-6, 4.66 ERA) has surpassed 2.5 strikeouts in 12 of 16 starts this season. In his last road outing, he struck out nine in six scoreless innings versus the Yankees. This season, his 16.2% strikeout rate is his highest since 2022.

2. Charlie Morton is projected to have over 4.5 strikeouts (-128) against the Braves at 7:15 pm ET. The 41-year-old Orioles righty (4-7, 5.63 ERA) has exceeded 4.5 strikeouts in six of his last seven starts, recording 20 strikeouts in his last three outings. He faces an Atlanta lineup that has struggled recently, batting just .202 over the past five games, the fourth-lowest in MLB last week.

The best strikeout prop for July 4th remains the under 3.5 strikeouts by Ben Casparius (+113). Casparius, typically a bulk pitcher after Shohei Ohtani’s starts, will make his third start of the season. He averaged three strikeouts in his first two starts and is coming off seven of eight appearances with fewer than 3.5 strikeouts. The Astros rank fifth-lowest in MLB with just 665 innings batted this season, supporting the projection.
