Leclerc pips Piastri in the final UK GP practice

Charles Leclerc topped the final practice at the British Grand Prix after Redflag prevented Lewis Hamilton from completing a lap that would likely go further than his Ferrari teammates.

The session was stopped with less than 10 minutes left due to lost Haas’s bodywork on the track, effectively locking Leclerc into the top spot with a best time of 1m 25.498.

Monegasque led a tight quartet of drivers representing three different constructors.

Oscar Piastri recovered strongly from Friday’s soft tire struggle, setting himself up as the lead driver for McLaren, laping just 0.068 at Leclair’s pace.

The Red Bull Racing recovery was even more impressive, with Max Verstappen being third, only 0.087s slower than the Lead Ferrari, but the Dutch complaining of brake bias issues, which he described as “like a handbrake.”

Randorris completed the tight top four just 0.108s from the pace.

However, Hamilton appears to be set to take all four of them as the final drivers of the leader, filming a new soft set at the final part of time.

The winner of the nine-time British Grand Prix set the personal best in the interim to place himself nominally 0.074 seconds ahead of the fastest first sector in the session and one sector left.

Britton was even more impressive in the era of taking on additional prep laps after a mistake through the club that would have hindered his first time-time run.

Hamilton rejoined the session following a short red flag on the same set of tires, but this time it was prevented once again as Gabriel Boltreto lost control of his car through Maggotz.

Sauber ran through the grass spill and spins backwards, where a large ridge appears to have broken his suspension, then he gets stuck on gravel, ending the session early.

Hamilton placed 11th in the session, not a representative, leaving his teammate with 0.834 seconds behind.

Tsunoda got off to a better start until Saturday than finishing fifth on Friday.

Bearman crashed to sixth place after the British lost control of the car entering the pit lane between the red flags of Boltreto.

Alex Albon came in seventh for Williams ahead of George Russell. The British, hoping for his qualifying chances in cool, cloudy conditions on Saturday, made the same mistake in his second attempt between the red flags.

Racing Bulls teammates Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson completed the top 10 Lawson after being shown black and white flags for driving irregularly in the practice of Pierre Gasly.

Hamilton was ranked 11th by Carlos Sainz, Esteban Ocon and Andrea Kimi Antonelli, all within a second of Leclair’s benchmark.

Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg was 1.001S Adrift, 15th ahead of his crashed teammate Boltreto.

Aston Martin’s walks between Fernando Alonso and Lance were overwhelming on the 17th and 19th, with Franco Colapinto interjecting on the 18th.

Guthrie lamented that the balance improvements didn’t translate into better grips on the way to the 20th and 2.38 seconds.
