Manchester United reportedly made a surprise move to try and snap former Everton striker Dominique Calvert Lewin on a free transfer.
The 28-year-old recently left Goodison Park at the end of his contract and is now available this summer, looking for a new club.
A little surprising, according to a report from the Sun, citing what he heard from “Insider,” Man Utd appears to have approached Calvert-Lewin.
The Red Devils certainly can cover the moves up front, but Calvert Lewin doesn’t look like a very reasonable signature, even if it’s free to use.
Dominique Calvert Lewin is not enough for Manchester United
The move probably made sense a few years ago, but Calvert Lewin has been much lower for a while.
England International was impressive during the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, but his goals record ever since then shows almost certainly why Everton hasn’t bothered him to keep him.
See below for his records at all competitions since then…
season | game | the goal |
2019/20 | 41 | 15 |
2020/21 | 39 | twenty one |
2021/22 | 18 | 5 |
2022/23 | 18 | 2 |
2023/24 | 39 | 8 |
2024/25 | 26 | 3 |
Some fitness issues clearly disrupt Calver Trewin’s progress, but that’s certainly another reason United won’t sign him.
MUFC needs a very powerful transfer window after such a disastrous campaign. This isn’t something like the signature needed to move the team forward.
Still, this is probably a new reality that club fans face, as the Sun suggests they are keen on this deal due to their poor financial situation.
