Aprilia Sets Clear Targets for Jorge Martin in Race to Master “Rhythm”

Aprilia is aware that Jorge Martin is eager to make his return to MotoGP racing. The 2025 season has been challenging for Martin, who missed the start due to an injury sustained on the very first day of preseason testing in Sepang. Just days before the opening race in Buriram, he suffered another setback in a training accident. Martin eventually awaited Aprilia’s debut at the fourth Grand Prix in Losail, but unfortunately, his race ended with yet another injury, sidelining him since then.

Thanks to new rules that were introduced during his absence—largely driven by Aprilia—Martin is now allowed to participate in a test day before officially returning to racing. However, the latest medical updates from Aprilia confirm that Martin will not be ready to race at the upcoming German MotoGP from July 11-13. Another medical examination is scheduled for the following week.

Massimo Rivola, Aprilia’s Racing Director, revealed that they initially planned to have Martin test at Misano on July 9, just before the German GP, although he wouldn’t compete there. Rivola told TNT Sports, “If he’s okay, we’ll sit down and decide when he’s ready to race.” He mentioned that the Brno GP, taking place from July 18-20 and right before the summer break, might be a realistic target for Martin’s return, emphasizing the importance of a gradual comeback to regain both physical and mental rhythm.

Rivola also noted that Martin’s progress will depend on him fully committing during practice sessions. “In Qatar, he hadn’t been on a bike for months. Now it’s his call to do something very special – stay here,” he said, adding that achieving race results would be the next step.

Martin’s potential return to the Aprilia team comes amid ongoing speculation about his future. Despite having a year left on his contract, he reportedly wants to leave Aprilia next year, as suggested by his manager’s comments about possibly signing with a rival. Aprilia has quickly dismissed these rumors, and Rivola calmly stated that if this dispute needed to be resolved in court, they would be “relaxed.”

Fan Take: Jorge Martin’s comeback is a significant moment for racing fans as it could shift the competitive dynamics in MotoGP, bringing back one of the sport’s promising talents. His return will be closely watched, not only for his racing potential but also for how it impacts the ongoing team and contract drama, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the championship.
