Monmouth Park has revealed its schedule for the upcoming weekend, with a series of independent events initially reported by the Paulick Report.

The July 4th weekend marks the start of Naira’s turf triples, featuring two local derbies and several contenders on their journey toward the Breeders’ Cup. Saratoga will host three stakes events over this weekend, headlined by the Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational, a race over one mile. The following day, the G1 Belmont Oaks Invitational will take place over the same course and distance.

While Saratoga leads the July 4th action, Horseshoe Indianapolis and Prairie Meadows will showcase their biggest race day on July 5th. In Indiana, notable races include the G3 Indiana Derby and G3 Indiana Oaks, while Prairie Meadows highlights its card with the G3 Cornhusker Handicap and the Iowa Derby. Across the country on Saturday, top horses like G1 Derby City Distaff winner Kopion will return at Los Alamitos in the G2 Great Lady M. Stakes, and the G3 Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes, a turf route for mares, will be held at Delaware Park.

Friday’s highlights include:
– 5:45 PM: Saratoga’s G1 Belmont Derby Invitational, featuring seven runners in an open field. Judmonte’s Nuruma is the 5-2 favorite, coming off a strong showing in the G1 American Derby. Also among the contenders is Luther, a French-trained runner who competed in two G1 races at age three.
– 6:19 PM: Saratoga’s G2 Suburban Stakes at 10 furlongs, featuring Todd Pletcher’s Lockdown, who previously won the G1 Santa Anita Handicap. Other entrants include billionaire Disarm and G3 Pimlico Special winner Awauth Aaron.

Saturday’s key races include:
– 6:13 PM: Saratoga’s G1 Belmont Oaks Invitational, where nitrogen is favored after besting most rivals in the Oaks, except for warming who was outperformed earlier. Challengers such as Mayday Lady, who has a strong turf record, and Fion, a consistent winner with four victories in six starts, offer upset potential.
– 6:33 PM: The G3 Indiana Derby at Horseshoe Indianapolis, featuring Triple Crown alumni Coal Battle and Publishers. Coal Battle recently finished third in the G3 Matt Winn, while Publishers, returning after the Kentucky Derby, aims for a win with Hall of Fame jockey Mikesmith. Instant Replay, the Texas Derby winner, is noted for consistently high Beyer Speed Figures this year.

Fan Take: This weekend’s slate of races showcases a thrilling blend of rising talent and established stars, setting the stage for compelling storylines on the road to the Breeders’ Cup. For horse racing fans, these events highlight the depth and excitement of American turf and dirt racing, promising intense competition and memorable moments.
