Lottie Ward: 21-year-old English amateur wins the female Irish Open with 6 shots

English Amateur Lotti Ward won her first Women’s European Tour title in a dominant way with a 4-under final round of 69, in a 6-shot victory at the Women’s Ireland Open.

However, since WOAD is an amateur, she does not receive a prize. The winner’s check for 67,500 euros (£58,000) came in second place to Madeline Sagstrom, a four-time Solheim Cup player from Sweden.

Woad, the world’s number one amateur, hit the front in windy conditions on Friday, extending his lead to seven strokes in the third round on Saturday, and making six birdies and two bogeys on Sunday, cruised through the Carton House home.

The 21-year-old, who beat the 70 in all four rounds, has become the first non-specialist to win the Women’s European Tour since Czech player Jana Melichova at the 2022 Czech Women’s Open.

Woad, who won the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur title and placed 10th at last year’s Women’s Open, has bogeyed all week with a very impressive performance in Kildare County.

“Overall, I felt pretty comfortable,” Woad said.

“There were moments when the back nine started, which could have been wrong, but I hanged out there and ended up with a nice birdie.

“I bursed the second hole and quickly settled down as soon as I popped a nice 12 footer out there. Today I hit some good shots. I probably didn’t put as many putts in the hole as I did on the other days, but in the end it was pretty stress-free.”

In the final round of 68, Sagstrom finished second in fourth with England’s World No. 19 Charlie Hull (69).
