Parrow Takes Full Responsibility Amid Ohio Mishap: “No One Else Is to Blame but Me”

Three-time IndyCar champion and current points leader Alex Palou admits that his own errors have cost him during the season. Starting from pole at the Mid-Ohio race, Palou led most of the event comfortably but made a critical mistake on Turn 9’s grass late in the race, allowing his Chip Ganassi teammate Scott Dixon to overtake him.

Dixon, who had taken a two-stop strategy and was considered an underdog for the win, couldn’t keep up with Palou’s pace for most of the race. However, Palou’s error gave Dixon the opportunity to use his experience to defend his position and hold off the Spaniard on the final lap.

Reflecting on the mistake, Palou called it a “stupid error” and acknowledged the team did well with pit stops and strategy. Despite the disappointment, he said it was still a good day overall and he was proud of the team’s effort.

Dixon’s win marked him as the third different winner of the 2025 season so far, but importantly, Palou’s slip-up did not cost Chip Ganassi the overall victory. Although frustrated by the mistake, Palou left Mid-Ohio having extended his points lead over closest rival Kyle Kirkwood.

Kirkwood, driving for Andretti, struggled to keep up with Palou’s pace all weekend and was eliminated in qualifying by Ganassi’s Kaifin Simpson. Starting seventh on the grid, Kirkwood finished eighth and not only missed out at Mid-Ohio but also diminished his championship chances. With a lead that grew from just under 100 points to 113 points after Mid-Ohio, Palou simply needs to maintain consistency to secure the title. However, his driving today showed he isn’t always cautious behind the wheel.

Fan Take: This race highlights just how small mistakes can drastically impact championship outcomes, emphasizing the intense pressure drivers face.
