The Real Power Player in the MotoGP Rider Market Revealed – Spoiler: It’s Not Jorge Martin

The pivotal issue in the current MotoGP Rider Market is not Jorge Martin, a seasoned negotiator within the paddock. Despite battling injuries in recent seasons, the MotoGP champion Martin is eager to leave Aprilia. However, according to Carlo Pernat, an experienced rider manager speaking to Mow Mag, the bigger story isn’t whether Martin can exit Aprilia or where he might land, but rather the developments surrounding KTM.

Pernat emphasized, “The entire KTM situation is key. The market could undergo a major transformation if KTM’s future is clarified. If KTM continues with four bikes in 2026, things will remain relatively stable. But if KTM reduces to two bikes and Tech3 switches to Honda, it will trigger a significant shuffle of riders and teams.” He added that Hervé Poncharal of Tech3 appears weary after years of challenges and has attracted serious investors. Both Tech3 riders, Maverick Viñales and Enea Bastianini, have signed directly with KTM, similar to factory riders Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder. This makes KTM the focal point of the market, with numerous moves depending on their decisions.

Pedro Acosta, seen as KTM’s prized talent, is at the heart of this chess game. Honda and VR46 Ducati teams have shown interest in Acosta, but he remains contracted with KTM through the end of 2026, although Spanish sources suggest he will likely stay for the next season. Despite this, Acosta has shown impatience in his ambition to become a MotoGP champion, signaling potential unrest. Tech3 plans to stay within KTM’s umbrella, but KTM’s financial difficulties have caused speculation about changes to their factory setup, which Pernat believes could unexpectedly free up coveted riders.

Fan Take: This KTM-driven shift could reshape the entire MotoGP grid, making it one of the most thrilling off-seasons in recent memory. For racing fans, these potential team and rider changes promise fresh rivalries and a new dynamic that could elevate the sport’s excitement in the coming years.
