Paolo Banchero delivered a powerful statement to Orlando Magic supporters following the signing of his contract extension. The 22-year-old standout led the Magic, who placed seventh in the Eastern Conference last season. His outstanding play earned him a $239 million, five-year max rookie contract extension. Despite dealing with injury during the 2024-25 season, Banchero managed impressive averages of 25.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. He also excelled in the playoffs, posting averages of 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists in a 4-1 series defeat to the Boston Celtics, drawing praise from Celtics star and NBA champion Jayson Tatum.

Following the contract signing, Banchero shared a video of himself working out, sending a motivational message to Magic fans. Selected first overall by Orlando in 2022, ahead of players like Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams, Banchero has consistently averaged over 20 points across his three seasons. While he has helped transform the Magic into a playoff team, he aims for even greater success, expressing a strong desire to win a championship.

The Magic have also made significant moves, acquiring Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Cole Anthony. Bane’s 41% shooting from beyond the arc addresses the Magic’s previous struggles with three-point shooting. The addition of guard Tyus Jones adds depth to their point guard rotation. With Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Jalen Suggs all secured on long-term deals, the Magic look more prepared to contend in the Eastern Conference. If the team can avoid injuries that plagued them last season, they have one of the league’s best young cores and a real shot to advance further in the playoffs.
