Tommy Bridewell Admits Honda Lags Behind Rivals in BSB Race Pace

Tommy Bridewell believes that Honda remains “too far” behind its competitors in terms of speed for the 2025 British Superbike (BSB) season. At Knockhill, the trend continued with Raceway Yamaha’s Bradley Ray winning two out of three races, while the only Ducati rider, Rolly Skinner, who won Race 3 on Sunday, was able to outperform him. Bridewell secured his third podium finish in just two rounds at Knockhill’s Wet Race 2 on Sunday, after also finishing on the podium for both races at Snetterton two weeks earlier. Despite his strong results, the 2024 runner-up and 2023 BSB champion acknowledges that Honda still lags behind Yamaha and Ducati in terms of pace.

Bridewell commented, “It was great for the team to earn another podium in the sprint race. It was a tough challenge, and I’m pleased with how I rode. However, we are still not at the pace of Yamaha and Ducati, but we remain optimistic.”

For Bridewell’s Honda Racing UK teammate Andrew Irwin, Knockhill was a positive weekend marked by aggressive riding, resulting in two top-10 finishes after a tough time at Snetterton. “This was the weekend I needed,” he said. “I’m not here to race at the lower end of the top 10. Coming back from a challenging Snetterton round, this feels like progress.”

Irwin added, “We need to keep working steadily and calmly, continuing to improve and prepare for Brand Hatch. This weekend was a step forward from Snetterton, but more work lies ahead. I know how to reach the podium and win in BSB. Patience and teamwork will be key as I push harder on the track.”

Fan Take: This update is critical for racing fans as it highlights the ongoing battle for supremacy in BSB, with Honda striving to close the gap on Yamaha and Ducati. The determination shown by riders like Bridewell and Irwin promises an exciting and competitive season ahead, potentially leading to breakthrough moments for Honda that could shake up the sport.
