Derrick Lewis Drops Hilarious Truths on Why UFC Might Skip Booking Him for White House Fight Cards

UFC heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis is set to climb the rankings further at UFC Nashville this Saturday, sharing the spotlight with fighters like Talison Teixeira, Stephen Thompson, Calvin Kattar, and Nate Landwehr. Known as the UFC’s all-time knockout king and a major fan favorite due to his one-punch knockout power and charismatic personality, Lewis has made headlines on several UFC pay-per-view events.

Despite UFC CEO Dana White announcing a potential UFC fight card at the White House next year to celebrate America’s 250th independence anniversary, Lewis expressed doubt about being included in that event. While former President Donald Trump has shown interest in hosting this rare event, which attracted top UFC stars including John Jones, Lewis feels his past legal troubles might exclude him from participating. In an interview with MMA Junkie’s Mike Borne, Lewis said he’s uncertain he’ll be allowed anywhere near the White House due to his history, though he joked it would be fun to fight on the White House grounds.

Lewis has a troubled past, including charges of aggravated assault and time served in prison, but he has since transformed his life to become a top heavyweight contender. He looks to extend his knockout record this weekend against Teixeira, aiming to get closer to a title shot.

Following Jon Jones’s unexpected retirement, Tom Aspinall is the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, but his next challenger remains uncertain. Since Lewis is among the few top 10 fighters Aspinall hasn’t faced yet, a strong performance this weekend could put Lewis in the title contention picture. Aspinall hasn’t fought since defending his interim title against Curtis Blaydes last July and has hinted that the UFC will soon announce his next challenger. A potential Aspinall vs. Lewis matchup would be explosive, especially if it happened at an unprecedented White House event, though Lewis must first overcome the tallest fighter on the UFC roster this weekend.

Fan Take: This news is significant for fight fans as it highlights Derrick Lewis’s ongoing climb toward a title opportunity while showcasing the sport’s expanding global and cultural reach with talks of a historical UFC event at the White House. If Lewis can maintain his momentum and overcome personal hurdles, it could create one of the most memorable chapters in heavyweight MMA history.
