Joao Pedro scored two goals for Chelsea during his first start, leading them to a 2-0 victory over Fluminense on Tuesday, securing a spot in the All-Europe Club World Cup final. The 23-year-old, who spent nearly a decade at Fluminense before joining Chelsea from Brighton on July 2, displayed his respect by not celebrating either goal, which came in the 18th and 56th minutes.

Chelsea now prepares to face the winner of the upcoming match between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, aiming for their second world title. They have previously won the Club World Cup 12 times, making this their 18th appearance in the tournament, following Brazil’s Corinthians’ victory over them in 2021.

Fluminense initially received a penalty in the first half, but it was revoked after a video review. Additionally, Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo suffered a foot injury during stoppage time.

The match drew a crowd of 70,556, although MetLife Stadium was only 10-15% full due to reduced ticket prices, which FIFA cut from about $474 to $13 to boost attendance in humid conditions.

Chelsea’s opening goal came after Joao Pedro intercepted the ball and unleashed a curling shot from 20 yards that found the net. They extended their lead when Cole Palmer set up Enzo Fernandez, who scored with a well-placed shot.

A potential penalty for Fluminense was overturned after video review determined that defender Trevo Chalobah’s arm was in a natural position during a free kick situation.

Report by Associated Press.

This news is significant for soccer fans as it highlights the emergence of Joao Pedro as a key player for Chelsea, showcasing his respect for his roots. Chelsea’s success could ignite a new wave of excitement in the Club World Cup and elevate the competitive spirit among top European clubs.
