Montreal Canadiens in the Mix? Latest NHL Rumors Spotlight Jordan Kilo Pursuit

Jordan Kyrou became a potential trade candidate ahead of last month’s NHL Draft. The 27-year-old right winger is still with the St. Louis Blues but has been linked to the Montreal Canadiens in trade rumors.

Following the trade of Canadiens defenseman Noah Dobson to the New York Islanders on June 27, TSN’s Pierre LeBlanc reported that Montreal was not involved in that deal. However, the Canadiens are among several teams interested in Kyrou. They are seeking a second-line center but are also open to acquiring goal-scoring wingers.

LeBrun noted uncertainty about how serious Blues GM Doug Armstrong is about trading Kyrou, who is entering the third year of an eight-year contract with an average annual value of $8.125 million. Kyrou’s no-trade clause will take effect on July 1. Despite ongoing interest from Montreal during the draft weekend, the Blues reportedly want multiple assets to consider trading him.

On June 28, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reported that the Canadiens are looking for centers, a position they cannot fulfill with Kyrou. In response, Armstrong signed centers Pius Suter and Nick Bjugstad via free agency.

Although Kyrou’s no-trade clause is active, reports still indicate the Canadiens continue their pursuit of the winger. Marco D’Amico of Rg.org shared that Montreal aims to strengthen their top-six forwards and has Kyrou among their targets. Montreal and St. Louis have recently traded before, with Logan Mailloux going to the Blues in exchange for the tough winger Zach Borrok. The possibility of Montreal acquiring Kyrou hinges on Kyrou’s willingness to waive his no-trade rights and whether Montreal can meet the Blues’ steep asking price, both of which remain uncertain.

Fan Take: This potential trade could be a game-changer for the Canadiens, who are eager to boost their offensive firepower. If successful, it would not only shake up the dynamics between two historic franchises but also add excitement to the NHL landscape for fans.
