Christian Horner has spoken out for the first time following his unexpected dismissal from Red Bull. The 51-year-old British motorsport figure was relieved of his role as the team’s principal on Wednesday, a move that stunned the Formula One community.

Horner had been at the helm of F1’s longest-standing team since its inaugural season in 2005, leading Red Bull for two decades right up to the 2025 season. Under his leadership, Red Bull transformed from a struggling team into a dominant force in the sport, achieving 124 race victories, 107 pole positions, 287 podium finishes, six constructors’ championships, and eight drivers’ world titles.

In his first statement after his departure, Horner expressed deep emotion and gratitude. Posting on Instagram, he said, “After 20 years of an incredible journey together, it’s heartbreaking to say goodbye to the team I truly loved.” He praised the Red Bull factory team as the driving force behind their success, recalling their unity through both triumphs and challenges.

He described leading the team as a privilege and proudly reflected on their shared accomplishments. Horner thanked the dedicated partners and passionate fans who supported the team from its modest beginnings to becoming a powerhouse in Formula One. He also acknowledged the importance of their competitors, recognizing how fierce rivalry pushed innovation and excellence within the sport.

“Formula 1 is built on ambition, passion, and respect. Although competition was intense, the shared drive to innovate and elevate the sport made this journey uniquely special,” Horner remarked. He concluded by saying he leaves with pride in what they have achieved and excitement for the plans laid out for 2026.

Additionally, footage has surfaced of Horner delivering an emotional farewell speech to the Red Bull staff at their Milton Keynes headquarters on Wednesday.

Following his exit, Laurent Mekies, previously team principal and CEO of Red Bull’s sister team, Racing Bulls, will take over as Red Bull’s team principal. Alan Permane has now stepped into Mekies’ former role at Racing Bulls.

Fan Take: Christian Horner’s departure marks the end of an era for Red Bull and Formula One at large, given his pivotal role in transforming the team into a dominant force. This leadership change could reshape team dynamics and strategies, making it a critical moment for racing fans eagerly watching how Red Bull adapts and continues to compete at the highest level.
