Rising Stars Shine at Golden Knights Development Camp: Spotlight on Alexander Wyer Air and Mateonobat

Several returning players have stood out at this year’s Vegas Golden Knights development camp, but attention is also focused on two newcomers: Alexander Wyermaa and Mateo Nobert.

In the 2025 NHL Draft, the Knights made a calculated move by trading to acquire defenseman Mateo Nobert with the 85th overall pick and also selecting Alexander Wyermaa at 186th overall.

Wyermaa shared a memorable moment from the draft day, saying, “It’s quite a story. I was out walking my dog and didn’t even check the draft updates until my dad yelled.”

Wiermaa wasn’t the only one with a memorable draft experience. Nobert recounted, “We were watching TV, and after our 85th pick was announced as Pittsburgh, suddenly the room erupted in cheers for Vegas. I couldn’t believe it, jumping with joy.”

Wiermaa reflected on his development journey through NCAA and CHL levels to earning a spot at the camp, emphasizing the importance of adapting to the fast pace on the ice. “The speed here is intense. Even though it’s the middle of summer, everyone’s fully engaged. Off the ice, it’s about focusing on recovery and taking care of your body,” he added.

For Nobert, the camp was a valuable learning experience. “The sessions on nutrition, gym work, and on-ice skills really taught me how to become more professional every day. Those meetings were invaluable,” he said.

Beyond their skills on the ice, both players embody the spirit and culture that the Golden Knights organization fosters, showing strong off-ice character as well.

Fan Take: This insight into the Golden Knights’ development process highlights how the team cultivates not only talented players but also well-rounded professionals. For hockey fans, this focus on growth and culture signals a promising future, both for the team and the sport’s evolving standards.
