Vancouver Canucks Lock in Alexei Medvedev with a Three-Year Entry-Level Deal

The Vancouver Canucks have inked a three-year entry-level contract with goaltender Alexei Medvedev. The 17-year-old was Vancouver’s 47th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft and was the fourth goalie selected in this year’s draft. Notably, Medvedev is the most promising goaltender Vancouver has drafted since Thatcher Demko in 2014.

General Manager Patrik Allvin stated in a press release that Medvedev strengthens the team’s goaltending depth and expressed optimism about his future, highlighting the progress he showed at development camp.

Last season, Medvedev played for the London Knights in the OHL, posting a 22-8-2 record with a .912 save percentage. He also took part in the 2025 OHL Top Prospect Games and helped lead London to a Memorial Cup victory. Now that he has signed his entry-level contract, Medvedev is ineligible for NCAA play and is expected to return to the Knights next season as their starting goalie.

Medvedev joins a group of eight goaltenders under contract with Vancouver, including Thatcher Demko, Kevin Lankinen, Artūrs Silovs, Nikita Tolopilo, Ty Young, Jizí Patera, and Aku Koskenvuo.

Fan Take: Signing a promising young goalie like Medvedev is a significant move for the Canucks, as developing strong goaltending talent is crucial for long-term team success. For hockey fans, this signals Vancouver’s commitment to building a resilient future roster and adds excitement to their prospect pipeline.
