The Bears Secure GM Ryan Pace with Contract Extension Through 2029 Season

The Chicago Bears have reportedly signed general manager Ryan Poles to a contract extension that keeps him with the team through the 2029 season. Poles, who joined the Bears after the 2021 season, was initially on a two-year deal. This new agreement aligns his contract duration with that of the Bears’ recently appointed head coach, Ben Johnson.

During his first three years as GM, Poles initiated a major rebuild that started with a 3-14 record in 2022. In 2023, he made a notable trade, sending the No. 1 draft pick to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for significant draft assets and star wide receiver DJ Moore. Among the assets acquired, the Bears used a future pick in 2024 to select quarterback Caleb Williams. Following Williams’ impressive rookie season, Poles bolstered the team by adding experienced offensive linemen, young receiving talents, and a forward-thinking offensive coach in the offseason.

Despite the team’s overall performance not yet meeting expectations, the Bears organization has shown confidence in Poles’ vision and management by rewarding him with this long-term deal.

Fan Take: This contract extension signals the Bears’ strong faith in Poles’ rebuilding strategy, giving NFL fans hope for sustained growth and success in Chicago. It could set the stage for a new era of competitive football, potentially influencing other teams to adopt similar long-term approaches to management and development.
