KTM Moto2 rider Deniz Oncu encountered a close call with a wasp during practice at the German Grand Prix, occurring just weeks after Pedro Acosta was hospitalized due to a hornet sting. Acosta, a two-time Grand Prix champion, was rushed to the hospital shortly after the Dutch Grand Prix after experiencing an allergic reaction from the sting. Fortunately, the reaction was mild, and he was discharged the same day, returning home without further issues.

At the German Grand Prix on Thursday, Acosta shared with Spanish media, “It didn’t affect me during the race, but when I reached the pits, I started feeling itching on my arms and chest. I took off my suit and noticed the itchiness. The situation seemed more dramatic initially—as I was taken to the hospital—but everything was fine, and I was able to go home that night.”

Similarly, Moto2 racer Deniz Oncu had a brush with a comparable incident on Friday during the German Grand Prix. Oncu and his team noted concerns about invasive insects after removing their helmets. The Turkish rider appeared to dodge a sting and continued the session without issue. He finished the day in 11th place and secured a direct spot in the second qualifying round for Saturday’s session at Sachsenring.

Fan Take: This incident highlights the unexpected challenges riders face beyond the track, showing how even nature can impact race preparation and performance. For fans and the sport, it underscores the resilience and focus required by riders to stay competitive despite unforeseen obstacles.
