SOUTH LAY TARHOE, Nevada — Former NHL player Joe Pavelski scored 23 points under the revised Stableford system to score a first-round lead on Friday in the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe.

“The round was good,” said Pavelski, second only to former tennis player Mardy Fish last year. “Obviously there was the excitement of the first tee and the first round. The nerves were there.”

Coach Vinny Del Negro, a former NBA player and 2021 winner of the Celebrity Tournament, was the point after the points.

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry was another point for 2023 winner and former footballer Taylor Tulman.

Carolina Panthers receiver Adam Thierren scored 19 points, and former NFL quarterback Tony Romo (three winners) was 18, and Oklahoma City Thunder player Alex Caruso was 18. Fish, who is also the winner of 2020, was 17 years old along with former pitcher John Smoltz and former LPGA Tour star Annika Sorenstam.

Charles Barkley drilled a hole in the Eagle from 88 yards in a par 4 seconds in the 9-point round. He ranked 24th in the 90-player field.

“It was a great day today,” Berkley said. “I had so much fun, I played with Nate Bargazze and the cable guy, Larry.

Curry performed with Father Del and his brother Seth.

“It was obviously fun to play with my dad and my brother, matching outfits and everything,” Stephen Curry said. “I held back big numbers just like I think I played.
