Manchester United have only added a senior first team to Reuben Amorim’s team since the 2024/25 campaign approached the end of the Aston Villa.

The Red Devils swooped to sign the Wolverhampton Wanderers to bolster options at the top of the pitch for the £62.5 million reported attack on midfielder Matthews Kuna in early June.

In the 2024/25 campaign, Brazil International scored 15 goals and six assists in the Wolves’ Premier League.

However, Manchester United missed out on signing another proven Premier League star as Tottenham Hotspur snapped Mohamed Kudus from West Ham United.

The Red Devils reportedly contacted Hammer in June to inquire about a potential deal at Ghana International, but their top flight rivals stole a march on them to win the race for his signature.

Kudus is an exciting player with many possibilities, but it’s also worth acknowledging that the 24-year-old star was a dangerous signature.

Why was Mohammed Kudus a dangerous signature for the man?

The Spurs reportedly paid a £55 million fee to sign West Ham’s previous Ajax Starlet this summer, a fee with many risks based on his form in the 2024/25 campaign.

Kudus ran for the UK in the 2023/24 season, ending his term with 15 goals and seven assists in all competitions, but failed to kick on in his second year.

The left-footed offensive midfielder, who can play anywhere across the frontline, has slashed sharply from what he produced in his debut campaign with the club, earning five goals and four assists in all Hammer tournaments last season.

His format in the Premier League in his second year is concerning compared to his first year, indicating that there is no guarantee that the Spurs have signed a player who can provide consistent quality.

As you can see from the table above, Kudus was a finisher in the final semester, as a finisher, and rarely created high-quality opportunities for teammates.

This is why Manchester United was a very dangerous signing to commit £55 million this summer, despite showing many quality moments in the league, as shown in the clip below.

Meanwhile, the club is pursuing another left-footed Premier League star who will sign on Amorim’s side even better than Kudus this summer.

A man who is confident in signing Premier League stars.

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United continues to pursue a contract to bring Brentford sensation Brian Mbeumo to the club before the end of the window.

The report claims that the latest bids submitted to the bees are worth more than £60 million, including add-ons, but at this point there is no agreement between the two aspects and the two offers have already been turned down.

However, the Red Devils say they are confident they can complete the transaction to sign Cameroon International to strengthen their team.

The Manchester Evening News also reveals that, amid interest from the Spurs and Nottingham Forest, the movement could be complicated once Joan Wissa leaves Brentford first.

United will want to avoid a situation where Wissa leaves the bees. Mbeumo’s asking price will skyrocket as he does not want to lose a top two scorer in the same window.

Why should a man sign Brian Mbeumo?

The club will need to push to close this transaction as soon as possible, as Cameroon International will sign even better than Tottenham’s Kudus move.

Mbeumo’s format in the Premier League last season suggests that he will arrive at Old Trafford, with much less risk, as he is an inform star at the peak of his career.

The 25-year-old Sensation finished his campaign with a standout distance of 20 goals and finished with seven assists on the top flight on the right flank on Brentford.

Mbeumo has produced at least eight goals and at least six assists in all six seasons at Brentford so far, while Kudus managed five goals and four assists in the final term.

As you can see from the table above, the bee star scored more than twice as much goals as last season’s team, creating more than twice as much XA as Kudus managed in both campaigns with West Ham.

The £60 million star, once praised as “unplayable” by Thomas Frank, is a winger who has shown that he can consistently deliver quality in front of goals in the Premier League.

Unlike Kudus, Mbeumo is out of the back of the electric season on top flights and, given his consistency over the past six years at the club, he can bring about almost guaranteed quality, both as a scorer and a goal creator.

It is now up to the club to make sure they can make a deal with Brentford so that they can take the winger to Old Trafford soon, as they arrive at United as a better signature than Kudus.
