Josef Newgarden secured pole position for Saturday’s Sink 275 race, returning to form after a string of disappointing finishes. Over his last three races, the former world champion has struggled, finishing outside the top 25 due to crashes and other setbacks.

At last weekend’s event in Mid-Ohio, Newgarden’s race was hindered early when his rear wheels got stuck in gravel shortly after the start. Newgarden initially looked like the favorite for pole, but the field became more competitive as drivers pushed harder on the second lap.

Alex Palou clinched a strong starting position in fourth by posting the fastest average speed across two laps for Sunday’s race, narrowly edging out Rosenqvist by less than 0.1 mph. The starting grid will feature a Penske “sandwich” with Newgarden starting at the front, flanked by Will Power and others.

However, Scott McLaughlin suffered a severe crash at Turn 1 during qualifying, losing control of his car and hitting a barrier hard enough to cause major damage. It remains uncertain whether McLaughlin will be able to start in tonight’s Sink 275 race.

Fan Take:
This news is pivotal as it marks a potential comeback for Josef Newgarden, a key contender whose performance could shake up the championship standings. Additionally, McLaughlin’s crash and uncertain status add drama and unpredictability to the race, which always excites racing enthusiasts and keeps the sport thrilling.
