Mets’ Rally Falls Just Short in Narrow 3-2 Loss to Royals on Sunday

The first half of the Mets’ 2025 season has wrapped up. New York dropped the Sunday finale against the Kansas City Royals 3-2, falling short after nine comeback attempts. Still, the Mets headed into the MLB All-Star break on a high note with a series win, following an 8-3 comeback on Friday and a 3-1 victory on Saturday.

1. The Mets hold a 55-42 record and have won seven of their last 11 games. At the time of this report, they share similar standings with the Philadelphia Phillies, who held a 54-41 record after their Sunday game against the San Diego Padres. Despite losing to the Royals (47-50), New York has taken three of their last four series. Manaea notably retired the side in the 7th inning. However, in the 9th, he gave up a single to Nick the Air, who later scored the winning run via Tyler Tolbert. The Mets need Manaea to be a key starter as they push through the latter part of the season.
4. Mark Vientos, Ronnie Mauricio, and Tyrone Taylor each had multi-hit games, with Mauricio delivering a crucial leadoff double in the 9th. Jeff McNeill followed with a triple to break a scoring drought, and Jared Young added a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Since his promotion from Triple-A Syracuse on June 3, Mauricio has hit .237/.311/.409 with four home runs and six RBIs in 29 games.
