The Washington Mystics secured a 74-69 victory over the Seattle Storm on Sunday, led by Britney Sykes who scored 10 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter. Sonia Citron contributed 17 points, while Kiki Iriafen added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, tying the franchise rookie record for double-doubles held by Chamique Holdsclaw.

For the Storm, Ezi Magbegor scored a season-high 19 points, Nneka Ogwumike tallied 16, and Skylar Diggins finished with 10 points and four assists, reaching 1,638 career assists and tying for eighth place in WNBA history with Natasha Cloud. Tiffany Mitchell, recently signed by Seattle, contributed 12 points. Despite Ogwumike narrowing the gap to 70-69 late in the game, Sykes responded with a clutch driving layup, and after a turnover by Diggins, she sealed the game with a free throw.

The Mystics took control with a decisive 15-4 run late in the game, highlighted by Citron’s three-pointer and layup. Meanwhile, Seattle struggled offensively, shooting just 36% from the field. Gabby Williams left the court early due to injury, finishing with six points, five rebounds, and four assists. The Mystics will face Los Angeles on Tuesday, while the Storm host Golden State on Wednesday.

Fan Take: This game underscores the rising talent and competitiveness in the WNBA, with rookies like Citron and Iriafen making significant impacts. For fans, it signals an exciting era of basketball where emerging stars are ready to challenge established veterans and elevate the sport’s profile.
