Three former Notre Dame women’s basketball players will feature on the WNBA All-Star roster for the game taking place Saturday night at Gainbridge Field House in Indianapolis.

Skylar Diggins from South Bend, now a member of the Seattle Storm, will play on Captain Nefeesa Collier’s team. Washington Mystic rookie Sonia Citron and Las Vegas Ace Jackie Young will join Captain Kate Linklark’s team.

All three former Notre Dame players were selected through a combination of league preparation, head coach picks, and fan votes. The coaches picked 12 reserves, including three guards, five frontcourt players, and four players regardless of position.

Diggins is making her seventh appearance at the WNBA All-Star Game, alongside Seattle teammate Nneka Ogwumike, who is among the most experienced All-Stars. Ogwumike will turn 35 on July 2, and Diggins will turn 35 on August 2.

A South Bend Washington High School alum, Diggins graduated from Notre Dame in 2013 and was the third overall pick in the WNBA draft that year. In the current season with Seattle, Diggins is averaging 18.2 points and 5.9 assists per game and has started every game so far.

At just 21 years old, Citron is the youngest All-Star this year. Drafted third overall by the Washington Mystics this spring after a strong senior season at Notre Dame, she has averaged 14.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2 assists per game, starting all 20 games.

Jackie Young, the 2016 Indiana Miss Basketball and a Princeton High School graduate, is making her fourth consecutive All-Star appearance. Drafted first overall by the Las Vegas Aces in 2019 after three years at Notre Dame, Young has started all 21 games this season, averaging 17.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1 steal per game.

Fan Take: This exciting lineup highlights the tremendous talent Notre Dame continues to produce for the WNBA, showcasing a mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars. For WNBA fans, it’s a thrilling reminder of the league’s growth and the bright future ahead for women’s basketball.
