Barca Welcomes Rooney Bardozi to Copenhagen Squad

Barcelona has officially signed FC Copenhagen winger Rooney Bardozi for an initial fee of approximately 2 million euros ($2.35 million), the club announced on Monday. Bardozi traveled to Barcelona over the weekend and met his new teammates on Sunday, signing a contract that extends until 2029.

The deal with Copenhagen also includes performance-related bonuses and a percentage of potential future transfers. This lower initial fee was agreed upon as Barcelona’s contract with the Danish club is set to expire in December.

The 19-year-old will participate in preseason training with the first team under coach Hanshiflick and will join the club’s tour in Asia later this month. Sources from the club suggest that Bardozi is viewed as a significant signing for the future, although he may also gain some experience playing with the reserve team.

Interest from other La Liga teams in lending out young players has been reported. Bardozi, who has Swedish nationality and was born to Syrian parents in Kuwait, made his Champions League debut two years ago, yet an ACL injury hampered his development. He netted 11 goals in the 2023-24 season, including one in a thrilling 4-3 win over Manchester United, before his injury in May. After ten months off, he returned to play six matches in the Danish Super Liga this March.

Fan Take: This signing signifies Barcelona’s commitment to nurturing young talent, emphasizing their rebuilding phase. For soccer fans, Bardozi’s potential could reignite excitement around the club, showing a promising future amidst challenges in performance.
