WBA lightweight titleholder Gervonta "Tank" Davis, 30, was arrested Friday morning in Miami Beach, Florida, facing a misdemeanor battery charge related to an alleged domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend of four years.

According to a Doral Police Department case report, the incident reportedly involved an assault on the mother of two of Davis’s three children outside her home on Father’s Day, nearly a month ago. The ex-girlfriend told police that a verbal argument occurred, during which Davis expressed concerns about personal matters and his son’s sexuality. The encounter escalated on June 15 at 5:04 p.m., when Davis arrived at her home to pick up their children. The woman claims Davis assaulted her by striking the back of her head with a closed fist and slapping her face after putting both kids in his car.

She was able to regain custody of the children, though the situation caused further distress. The woman also reported Davis threatening her by revving his car engine, but she safely left the scene and sought medical care at a nearby hospital. The police report noted an undocumented altercation between the two, involving roughly ten physical contacts.

Davis was taken into custody in Miami Beach and transferred to Doral Police Station. A Miami-Dade County inmate record shows he was held on a $10,000 bond at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center before release. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 29.

The boxer has faced several legal issues over the years, including domestic violence and traffic offenses. His most recent previous arrest was in December 2022 for allegedly slapping a woman with a closed hand, but that charge was eventually dropped.

Davis was reportedly considering a rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. in August following their controversial majority draw in March, though Premier Boxing Champions has yet to confirm the bout.

Fan Take: This news highlights the ongoing off-ring challenges that can impact even top fighters like Davis, reminding fans that athletes are human but must be held accountable for their actions. How this situation unfolds could affect Davis’s career trajectory and the sport’s image surrounding athlete conduct outside the ring.
