Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, along with teammates Diogo Dalot and head coach Reuben Amorim, visited Anfield on Monday to honor Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.

The Portuguese players from United laid a wreath at the memorial outside Anfield. Fernandes and Dalot had previously shared the locker room with Jota and were part of the squad that triumphed in the international league last June.

Tragically, Jota lost his life in a car accident near Zamora, Spain, on July 3.

The message on the floral tribute reads, “Rest in peace Diogo and Andre.”

“I want to express my heartfelt condolences on behalf of everyone at Manchester United.”

In response, Liverpool has retired the number 20 shirt across both their men’s and women’s teams in memory of Jota. The team played their first match since Jota’s passing in a tribute-filled game against Preston North End on Saturday.

Fan Take: This heartfelt tribute illustrates the deep connections within the soccer community, transcending rivalry and showcasing the spirit of unity during tough times. It reminds fans that at the heart of the sport are relationships built on shared experiences, loss, and respect.
