  • Liverpool maintains Hugo Ekichique as a backup for Alexander Isaac
  • Hugo Ekitike appears to be a guaranteed Premier League signature

It is understood that Liverpool took an official approach to Newcastle to communicate his interest in signing Alexander Isaac.

It is worth highlighting that such an approach does not appear to be attached to the opening bid.

However, according to Athletic, Merseysider has revealed that it is ready to approve the fee around the £120 million mark.

Fabrizio Romano jumped on the X (formerly Twitter) to support his claim that Liverpool had contact with the magpie more than the top scorer.

Of course, Eddie Hau’s men are clear about the future of Swedish international. They don’t want to sell.

However, it appears that there is at least a bit of optimism on the side of the club’s recruitment team that will at least be able to sign a contract.

Interestingly, the Premier League champions cover all bases and appear to be ready to push forward fellow targets Hugo Ekitike if they can’t seal the ISAK deal.

Either way, the French are planning to switch to the Premier League.

To put things in context, Ekitique forms part of the increasingly shrinking signature of the top striker. Viktor Gyoker appears to be joining Arsenal. Benjamin Sesko will remain in RB Leipzig (unless the suitor is ready to grow).

There are two obvious scenarios to play. Eintracht Frankfurt Hitman has expressed his reservation about competing with Alexander Isak for a few minutes and will pick more game time at Anfield.

Alternatively, Liverpool’s approach to Isaac proves that Newcastle’s hierarchy is difficult to cross aside. With the bank having £120 million, Magpies can afford to cover the costs of Ekitike’s £86 million release clause, pocketing £34 million profits to further strengthen their team.

Arne Slot will win a proven world-class striker for the Premier League, and Newcastle will get one of the next best available on the market.

In any case, the Reds know that Hugo Ekitique is likely to take part in the top English flight this summer. The only remaining question is about which kit he will pull ahead of the 2025/26 season.
