Could Connor McDavid Be the King Amidst Teams and Surveillance Showdown?

The Edmonton Oilers will soon need to prioritize re-signing their captain and forward, Conor McDavid. While there is ample time to secure his contract, speculation is already swirling around him, with the Los Angeles Kings showing interest. According to NHL Watcher, Chris Johnston hinted that although he didn’t directly connect the Kings to McDavid, the team is likely tracking the situation closely. As concerns among Oilers fans mount with each passing day, the Kings might try to leverage the uncertainty.

Ken Holland, the Oilers’ general manager who has past ties with the team, might even encourage McDavid to consider joining the Kings if the finances can be worked out. Most believe McDavid will eventually re-sign with Edmonton, but until that happens, all NHL teams, including Los Angeles, are prepared for the slim possibility that he could enter free agency.

Regarding the Kings’ other moves, they attempted to acquire a rumored defensive trade target rumored for weeks but were unsuccessful as the player re-signed with the Buffalo Sabres on July 14. Additionally, a former defenseman from the Kings’ Ontario AHL affiliate has drawn interest from KHL’s Avangard Omsk, while a Swiss forward drafted in the third round by the Kings has recently signed with ZSC Lions in the Swiss National League.

Fan Take: This ongoing McDavid saga is one of the biggest storylines in hockey, highlighting how valuable star players are in shaping a team’s future. If McDavid were to consider a move, it could send shockwaves across the NHL and shift the balance of power, making every offseason a must-watch event for fans.
