The final men’s major championship of the year is here as the 2025 British Open Championship will take place on Thursday morning at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
World No. 1 Scotty Scheffler is a bet favorite to walk away with the fourth major title. He has won three PGA Tours this season, including the PGA Championship. Meanwhile, World No. 2 Rory McIlroy plays in his backyard just 60 miles from where he grew up in Northern Ireland. The 2025 Masters champion missed the cut when the event was last performed in 2019, when Shane Laurie, who is on the field this week, won. Needless to say, the third world No. 3 Xander Schauffele has returned to the UK, which has been trying to defend its UK open title for a year now.
There are 156 players on the field, including 15 amateurs and 11 past champions, but only one person can bring a claret jug home.
The Golfweek staff believes they will leave the Royal Portrush as champions on Sunday.
