šŸˆ Good Morning, Especially to…

Von Miller and the Washington Commanders

The Commanders sought to bolster their pass rush and successfully did so by signing veteran edge rusher Von Miller to a one-year contract, adding to his already impressive sack record.

Miller’s NFL future was uncertain after being released in March to save $8 million, but he confirmed in May that he plans to continue playing for at least another year.

ā€œI’m definitely playing this season. We’re taking it one year at a time—if I have a great year, I’ll play next year too,ā€ Miller said.

Last season, at 36, Miller faced a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy but still managed six sacks in 13 games. He currently ranks 16th on the NFL all-time sack list, just behind legends Lawrence Taylor and Leslie O’Neal.

While Miller is a key addition for the Commanders, other teams are also competing to strengthen their rosters. Tyler Sullivan highlighted the top 10 notable moves this summer, including Aaron Rodgers signing with the Steelers, the Giants drafting quarterback Jackson Dart, and coaching changes within the Lions.

Old but Not Forgotten

Rory McIlroy Seeking Redemption at The Open

Golf fans, grab your coffee—The Open Championship is underway. Rory McIlroy kicks off today at 10:10 AM ET, reflecting on a tough experience at Royal Portrush six years ago, where he opened with a boundary shot and finished the round with a 79.

This year is different; McIlroy aims to complete a career Grand Slam, and his experience should serve him well. Patrick MacDonald notes that McIlroy’s response to adversity and acceptance of his place is a positive change from 2019’s isolation.

McIlroy says, ā€œBeing here with a green jacket, chasing a lifelong dream, I’m focusing on enjoying the moment and playing in front of my fans.ā€

Another competitor to watch is Scotty Scheffler, aiming for a rare two-major title season by outperforming his previous best at The Open (tied for seventh).

CBS Sports will provide comprehensive coverage this weekend, including updated tee times and TV schedules.

Bradley Beal Joins the Clippers

Following his purchase by Phoenix Suns, Bradley Beal has moved on to the Los Angeles Clippers with a reported two-year, $11 million contract.

Beal had a less impactful season with the Suns, averaging 17 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.3 rebounds over 53 games—numbers not quite justifying the big payday he was expected to receive.

However, for the Clippers, Beal is a timely and valuable addition. James Herbert noted that the Clippers found the scoring guard they needed at a reasonable price, creating a versatile lineup capable of competing for the Western Conference.

Bold Predictions for SEC Football

As the SEC Media Day unfolds in Atlanta, optimism runs high, with no teams expected to finish worse than 8-4.

MLB Trade Deadline Buyers and Sellers + Power Rankings

Though in the middle of the MLB break, trade activity is heating up. Dayn Perry breaks down the market’s buyers and sellers, noting Boston’s rapid turnaround from potential sellers after trading Rafael Devers to major buyers following a 10-game winning streak.

The Yankees and Mets remain strong buyers, while teams like the Braves and Cardinals face tough decisions ahead of the July 31 deadline.

Mike Axisa keeps tabs on the latest trade rumors, and the newest MLB Power Rankings show the Red Sox rising into the top 10.
