MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin revealed that while hospitalized after his crash at the Qatar Grand Prix, he was uncertain if he would ever be able to race again. Martin made his MotoGP comeback at the Brno Grand Prix this weekend, marking his first race since the April crash at the Lou Sail event.

At a press conference before the Czech Grand Prix, the Spanish rider confirmed he will stay with the Aprilia team next year, putting to rest months of rumors suggesting a move to Honda. He also opened up about the mental difficulties he faced during his recovery, particularly during his time in a Qatar hospital.

“I believe I am confident now. I struggled mentally when I was in the hospital in Qatar,” Martin shared at the BRNO press conference. “But now, I feel fully trained and more prepared than ever. The courage I have discovered in myself – I didn’t know I had so much, but now I do.”

Reflecting on his time in the hospital, Martin added, “I was unsure if I could ever ride again. I spent four days in the ICU, and I kept talking to my girlfriend, my dad, and Alex Espargaro, wondering if a return to MotoGP was possible. Now, I’m focused on regaining speed and strength, alongside the professional aspects.”

On a personal level, he said, “I was just trying to stay calm and take things one step at a time.”

Fan Take: Jorge Martin’s return and resilience highlight the sheer determination and mental toughness required in MotoGP, inspiring fans and racers alike. His decision to stay with Aprilia also adds stability to the team, promising compelling competition in the upcoming season.
