Newcastle had little luck in their search to sign a new striker to compete with Starman Alexander Isaac, who now appears to be ready to stay at St. James’ Park.

The Magpie ended his interest in Hugo Ekichike as Liverpool gave the move for the Entracht Frankfurt man. That means Newcastle is back in the drawings as Newcastle has already missed Joan Pedro, who joined Chelsea at the beginning of the summer.

However, club officials were not blocked and now identified a new top target to compete with ISAK.

As David Ornstein reported, Newcastle turned his attention to Brentford’s Joane Wissa, who scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season. The 28-year-old is well known by Eddie Howe, and given his diversity, he could play alongside Isaac as a winger.

The problem with Newcastle is that trading Wissa will be extremely difficult. In particular, Brian Mbeumo appears to be set to leave Brentford and join Man United. The bees are not under pressure to move other stars forward.

On top of this, Newcastle could face competition from Tottenham and Nottingham Forest, with both clubs showing interest in Wissa for the past few weeks. And, coupled with that, they have not yet reached an agreement on personal terms with the International Dr. Congo.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will move to Wissa, but given the circumstances it may be another deal they oppose in pursuit of a more achievable operation.
