Jose Mourinho has expressed his intention to return to coaching in Portugal while still at the peak of his career.

At 62 years old, Mourinho is currently under contract with Fenerbahçe for another year.

“I will definitely come back to Portugal. It’s not happening just yet, but it will,” Mourinho told SportsTV following his team’s 2-1 victory in a preseason friendly in Albufeira, Portugal.

“I don’t feel like I’m nearing the end; rather, I want to return to Portugal not for a farewell tour or the last chapter of my career. I am at the top of my game, both physically and mentally, and I will certainly come back,” he added.

Having left Portugal in 2004 after leading FC Porto to Champions League success, Mourinho now holds his 11th managerial position, boasting 26 major trophies during his tenures at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Roma.

When asked about whether he prefers to manage a club or the Portuguese national team, he responded, “Anything.”

Mourinho recently dismissed rumors that he would take the helm of the national team following discussions with senior members of the Portuguese Football Federation about the 2026 World Cup.

He also disclosed that he had turned down opportunities to coach Portugal twice in the past year.

Under his guidance, Fenerbahae finished as runners-up to Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig last season.

Fan Take: Mourinho’s potential return to Portugal is significant for soccer fans as it could rejuvenate domestic football, drawing on his extensive coaching experience to elevate the sport in the country. His presence might also inspire a new generation of players, fostering a competitive environment that could enhance Portugal’s performance on the international stage.
