A new chapter has begun for basketball enthusiasts with the NBA Rising Stars Invitational, setting a groundbreaking example for grassroots basketball on a global scale. This inaugural regional high school tournament brought together 12 boys’ and 10 girls’ teams from 11 countries across the Asia-Pacific region, providing young talent the chance to compete internationally and engage in unique cultural and NBA-RAN events against top-tier competition.

The event featured appearances from basketball legends and ambassadors such as Yaomin, WNBA icon Lauren Jackson, Ryan Dunn, Oso Igolalo, and Urban Tominaga, who observed teams vying for the first-ever Building Ball Trophy, designed by acclaimed artist Victor Solomon. The atmosphere was further energized by K-pop superstar Gini, who supported from the sidelines during the semi-finals and finals, Miami Heat’s mascot Bernie, and halftime performances from the Laker Girls.

Hosted in Singapore, a city known for its stunning bay gardens, Michelin-star dining, and warm local hospitality, the event proved to be an ideal venue for players, fans, and media alike. Serving as a global scout, the correspondent enjoyed watching top female players from the region, with Kyoto Seikagakuen High School from Japan dominating the tournament and clinching the championship by defeating Onyang Girls High School 109-40.

Noteworthy standout players included Hikari Yoshida (Point Guard, Japan), the tournament’s first MVP, known for her aggressive defense and fast-paced playmaking; Kohaku Mansho (Combo Guard, Japan), an infectious scorer and clever decision-maker; and Ngalula Liya Mukuna (Forward, Japan), who impressed with her dominance on the boards and scoring ability. Other key performers featured Chidimma Clara Felix’s versatile attacking, Ruth Cowell’s rim protection, and Juha’s fast-paced guard play, among many others from Japan, Korea, Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, and Thailand.
